Midwest POWER YOGA is about your life

Welcome from the Director

On behalf of Midwest Power Yoga, it is my privilege to warmly welcome you to our program. We are honored you are offering us the opportunity to assist you in fulfilling your personal and professional goals. We look forward to sharing our enthusiasm about the program with you and are delighted that you have made the commitment to participate.

We want you to know that our program is more than taking classes and attending 8 weekend workshops. We are here to support you. We are available to answer your questions, assist you in any way we can, and our commitment to you will not end after certification. Our objective is to help you take the rewarding step from student to teacher. We will be here to assist you in getting started as a teacher, opening a center, and continuing your education if you so choose.

The transition from student to teacher is a rewarding one. If we pass on even a fraction of joy and satisfaction we have found through yoga, this program will be a great blessing to you, to your students, and to your students’ students.

We cannot stress how important your practice will be. It is the key to fully understanding the Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga system and being able to teach with confidence and insight.

To help facilitate your studies the following benefits are included in your MPY Teacher Training program:

  1. Complimentary classes, workshops, and bootcamps at MPY from acceptance to completion of certification.
  2. 20% discount on all retail purchases through final weekend intensive.

If there is anything we can do to enhance the program and make the process more meaningful and compatible to you, we would like to know. We would also appreciate receiving your impressions of the course as the program goes on. We know you will find the MPY Teacher Training Certification program to be of tremendous value on every level of your life, and we look forward to working with you and getting to know you better.

May you be blessed, may you be a blessing unto others.
-Deborah Williamson

Director

Deborah Williamson, B.S., B.A., Baptiste Certified Teacher, CYT, E-RYT,
Midwest Power Yoga Founder

Debbie has trained extensively in classical yoga traditions like Himalayan and Kriya Yoga, as well as the more physical Ashtanga, Iyengar and continues to study the Power Vinyasa (Kest, Baptiste, Forrest, Seane Corn, and Shiva Rae) styles of yoga and integrates this wealth of experience into an amazing and accessible, all levels class experience. Debbie launched her teaching career in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin in 1989 at the Fontana Spa at The Abbey Resort. After ten years of teaching in 2000, Debbie began training yoga teachers, as apprentices through the Yoga Alliance, in Kohler, Wisconsin while managing the Sports Core, a premier health and racquet club affiliated with the AAA 5-Diamond Resort, The American Club.

She holds a BA degree in Business Administration and a BS degree in Exercise and Fitness. She is a former National Nuprin Fitness Champion, an IDEA Master Personal Fitness Trainer, and has been invited to be a presenter at various industry conferences nationwide. This includes the Yoga Journal Conferences, which she also works at throughout the year as a Conference Staff Associate and Registration Assistant. With over 25 years of recreation, resort spa, corporate fitness, and private health club management; Debbie was excited about sharing the powerful physical, emotional and spiritual benefits of yoga wherever she worked. In September 2003, Debbie approached her supervisor with the idea of opening a yoga studio as an additional wellness business, and her supervisor accepted Debbie’s resignation on the spot and said “you need to do this yourself, this is your passion, this is your life.”

Yoga is Debbie’s life and “Midwest Power Yoga is about your life” became the tag line. In January 2004, Debbie opened the first flagship studio in Appleton, Wisconsin. It quickly became one of the most popular studios in Northeastern Wisconsin, serving students from all over Wisconsin and building a strong community of teachers, students, assistants and volunteers. The demand for credentialed or registered yoga teachers was in such demand with the growing interest of yoga in the area, Debbie opened a Yoga School, registered with the Yoga Alliance and approved by the State of Wisconsin to offer yoga teacher training with a National Certification for registration of teachers. The school sold out from the beginning, serving the Midwest’s YMCA’s, schools, health clubs and hospitals by training and providing a professional pool of Nationally Certified Yoga Teachers.

In January 2005, a second Wisconsin studio was opened in Mequon and even more students were able to access Midwest Power Yoga. Along with the opening of the studio, a Midwest Power Yoga Licensing and Consulting Program began to give yoga teachers the opportunity to own and operate their own yoga studios without the burden of creating and maintaining a brand identity, but with operating procedures and systems in place. Yoga teachers could own a business focusing on what they do best, teaching yoga.

After two and a half years of operation, in March 2006, a third Midwest Power Yoga studio opened in Little Chute, Wisconsin. Debbie’s consulting business was also expanding by servicing studios across the Country which included, a year with 50% of her time on the road traveling: directing and assisting Baron Baptiste at bootcamps nationally and internationally, managing the Baptiste Power Yoga Institute and restructuring Baptiste Studio operations.

With so much traveling in 2006 and 2007, students, teachers and studio owners realized that face time with Debbie was limited, therefore numerous requests came in for products that could be used as tools in her absence. To support these requests, It’s Your Asana, was created. Again, it’s your practice. It’s your life. And, in owning your own business it’s you’re a..!

It’s Your Asana is an entity that provides audio cd’s and downloads as tools for your yoga practice, meditation practice, a weight loss program and numerous resources for yoga studio owners.
